Are You Running Correctly?

Running is the basic execrise for all kinds of sports.  We will describe the best running form and suggested training program for your reference.   A correct running form not only can avoid injury but also can improve your running efficiency.

Learning how to run is very important.  Many runners run for many years but they don't know they are running wrongly.  An easy way to see whether you are on the right track is to take off your running shoes and see which part of your shoes suffer from wear and tear.

From the photo, you can see the heel part of the shoes have worn.  That means you are landing on your heels during running.  This running form is the most ineffective one and it can hurt your legs, especially your knees.  It is simple to understand.  When you are running, your body is moving forward.  But if you are landing by your heels, your movement is resisted by an opposite braking force between the ground and your heels.   The braking force not only slowing down your forward momentum, but also creating unnecessary force that will hurt your legs and knees.

The correct form of running is to land on your mid-foot.  That is the balls of your feet.  This is the most effective running form for distant running and it reduce impact forces and injury risk.

Still can't get it?  Take off your shoes and run on barefoot.  You can see and feel how your foot lands on the ground.  You won't land on heels by barefoot running.  That is it.  Our body is not designed to land on heels, we should land on our mid-foot.

If you find yourselves are "running on your heels", please change it!  It may take a long time to adapt to the new form, but it's worth it!  I never get hurt on my legs and knees again for years after I have changed my running forms.  Do it now!
