A good and correct running pose is very important for distance running because you are going to repeat the pose thousands of time in a run. A correct pose not only prevent injury but also increase your running efficiency.

For the upper body, what you have to do is to relax, put the arms aside with minimum swing and do it naturally. Think of the swing of arms are just for balancing the body during running. For distance running, you don't have to swing the arm up and down too much, just keep it minimum to save energy. Moreover, don't swing your arms to the sides and the fist should not swing over the central line of your body, i.e. your right fist should not swing over the left hand side of your body.

Your upper body, the head and the lower body should form a straight line, with this straight line slightly tilting forward for natural forward movement during running.
